Staying local these summer holidays – what’s on in and around the Eastern Suburbs this Christmas and New Year

Summer holidays are exhilarating and exhausting at the same time. We get to spend quality time with our families but that also means keeping ourselves and/or them entertained for the hours we’re awake. If you’re planning on staying put in the Eastern Suburbs over the summer break, we’ve put together a list of what’s on in our area.

 

 Moonlight Cinema – Centennial Park

Celebrate the arrival of summer with loved ones whilst enjoying a picnic and cinematic night out in Centennial Park. The event is BYO so you can pack your own delicious treats – including bubbles – or there’s a food truck complete with licensed bar at the event. There’s even a VIP experience complete with beanbags in prime position of the screen. This event is family friendly so as long as the movie is suitable, children are welcome.

When: Every day 6pm-10pm until 31 March 2019

Vibe Rooftop Yoga – Rushcutters Bay 

Enjoy a relaxing yoga session on top of the Vibe Hotel, Rushcutters Bay. Your yoga poses will be lifted to sky as you take in the views in between each pose.

Christmas at Coogee Pavilion

 

Get into the festive spirit and welcome Santa to Coogee as he pays a visit. You can have your photo taken, join in some festive activities with Santa’s elves, and pick out a real Christmas tree – of which all proceeds will go to Ronald McDonald House.

When: 10am-1pm on Sat 1 Dec, Sun 2 Dec, Sat 8 Dec, and Sun 9 Dec 2018

Coogee Family Fun Day 2018 – Coogee

This is a fun day out for the whole family with a large selection of food and artisan stalls, rides for the kids, and the Captain Barnacles Show on the main stage.  There will be lots of interactive games and activities for kids and adults of all ages plus live music and entertainment throughout the day.

Sundown Sunday Sessions – Mamasan Bondi

Finish lazy, sun-filled Sundays with some live music curated by Australia’s better-known double bassist, Jonathan Zwartz. Feast on Thai cuisine whilst listening to the live sounds of jazz and funk and groove.

Meditation Base Camp – Rushcutters Bay

If you’ve always liked the idea of learning to meditate, then this is the perfect starting point. You’ll join a group of locals to learn and practise the art of a universal form of meditation. Each free session starts with a short reading and then 30-40 minutes of meditation.

Aspects of love – Hayes Theatre Co, Elizabeth Bay 

An intimate piece based on a David Garnett novella of the same name and featuring the famous Andrew Lloyd Webber song, “Love changes everything”. The performance focuses on a relationship between an actress called Rose and a young student called Alex – who becomes quite obsessive whilst travelling through France.
